Apple held WWDC 2020 at 10:00 am on June 22 (Pacific Time). In addition to the announcement of a new generation of iOS14, watchOS 7, tvOS and other systems, WWDC 2020 also brought some new hardware products, such as the new AirPods and ARM versions of Mac.

In a nutshell, the flourish of WWDC 2020 is unprecedented.

The innovation in software:

The changes in iOS 14 are various. In addition to the changes in animation, the entire interaction logic and UI performance will adjust comparing to the previous versions of iOS.

iOS 14:bulletin

Apple’s main screen time chart has been used since the first generation of the iPhone, without a batch of alternations. It is familiar to users, but it will cause visual fatigue if they stay there too long to watch it. iOS 14 may bring more eye-catching new elements; the first is the “new list view” and “screen widgets.”

The new list view can help users to view all applications on the device in the scrolling list on this page, and the general effect is similar to the list view of Apple Watch.

As for the elements of the desktop widget, unlike the fixed widget in iPadOS 13, the desktop widget of iOS 14 can move freely on the home screen, just like the application icon.

iOS 14: default application

In other respects, iOS 14 may also support changing the default application, and the card-type caller ID is used. The split-screen mode of the real screen still needs to be studied. Other aspects yet bring a lot of surprises. The specific depends on the press conference.

Compatiable Devices

Some people with an old device might be worried about the compatiablity of the new iOS. Here is a List of devices compatibles with iOS 14. Devices as old as iPhone 6s are supported.

Finally, let’s look forward to it.

MacOS Big Sur

macOS Big Sur is macOS 11 — not macOS 10.16!

macOS Big Sur includes a big redesign. This is the iOSification of macOS.

macOS Big Sur applications are built optimized for Apple Silicon; “vast majority of developers can get their apps up and running in a matter of days.”

Apple says using Apple Silicon in the Mac will bring improved GPU, high-performance storage, improved efficiency, and much more.

iPadOS

iPadOS is independent from iOS, and Apple has opened a new ecology to save the sluggish tablet market. The result is that the “four emperors” system used to rule mobile phones/computers/watches/set-top boxes has become the “five emperors.”

watchOS 7

Apple will also announce watchOS 7 at the WWDC20 developer conference, and the focus of the upgrade may continue to be around dials, health monitoring, and other features. And watchOS 7 will also provide new management functions, including parental control, implementing of trusted contacts.

A variety of new hardware

ARM Mac

Mac Transfer to ARM

Apple most recently announced the news about the ARM Mac at this WWDC conference, and they also claimed that Apple is developing at least three of its processors for the Mac. The first is based on the A14 chip, but the internal design may be adjusted according to the Mac.

Currently, Apple uses Intel’s x86 chips in all terms of Mac products, and iPhone and iPad use Arm-based chips. Previously, ARM has focused more on power efficiency than Intel, which primarily strives for maximizing performance. As Apple gradually narrows the speed gap between ARM and x86, there is an incentive to implement an ARM-based chip in laptops. Apple eventually hopes that developers can create an application that can run on all Apple devices and establish a unified ARM-based ecology.

Headphones

For headphones, AirPods Studio with head-mounted design on WWDC is likely to debut, and shoulder-mounted AirPods X may also be released together. AirPods Studio is made of high-quality leather materials. The headphone and headband pad are magnetically connected to make it more comfortable to wear. The other AirPods X is BeatsX in-ear headphones, creating sports and fitness use scenarios.

Workstation computer

At the same time, the workstation computer was updated to raise the audience of the product line. This high-end product appeared in WWDC. It seems reasonable as a professional device for professionals.

In recent years, the correlation between several major operating systems has become strengthened. Weaving from a few threads into a network to trap users, constitutes Apple’s unique “soft and hard integrated” product development model.
