How My Obsession With Hugh Jackman Saved My Marriage
You only have to listen to Hugh Jackman speak for about ten minutes to know where his priorities lie. “Our marriage is the foundation of our family and therefore my life.” And, “Nothing I’ve accomplished as an actor or performer would mean very much to me without having a beautiful family to come back home to.”
Hugh likes to use the phrase “Olympic-level,” referring to Zac Efron’s ability to slide shot glasses, or Australians’ ability to party. And Hugh himself is talented in so many things (one-take axe throwing bullseye, just saying). But if there’s one thing at which we know for sure he’s Olympic-level, it’s being a husband. It’s swoon-worthy how he talks about Deb:
“…my secret weapon”
“…my rock”
“Underneath the surface, where it’s real, where it’s still, where it’s deep, that is the love I have with Deb.”
Hugh and Deb have an extraordinary marriage. In fact, at the risk of sounding melodramatic, studying their marriage and applying what I learned was a big factor in saving my own. They have the strongest relationship I’ve ever witnessed. Happily, we can learn from what they do and apply it ourselves! The first step is…
1. Choose someone who loves you just the way you are.
