Why I want to work in Marketing

I love building brands and want to make one for you

I’ve always been very inspired by designs and brands around me, but never really understood or thought about it much. At 9 years old I started messing around with woodworking. Small structures and furniture at first but that grew and grew and grew with peeking out with my Tiny House Belgium project. From day 1 I always wanted to make a website a logo, share pictures…

Sharing what I was working on expanded fast when I started my Tiny House Belgium project. My business started and ended with our Facebook page(which for the record, is now going in a direction I don’t love). That page grew very fast in the first few months and a lot of media outlets, national and regional press magazines and TV-shows reached out to me. You can find all these articles and interviews here. I started vlogging, posting regular picture updates on what we were working on and so on.

I sold Tiny House Belgium in January this year and now I’m working on my own brand. Something every single person should be working on right now. This week I’m launching my own Blog where I want to discover what the next 5 years will look like by interviewing people in the innovation and media space. I’ll let you know more about that later.

Sharing and story-telling are or at least will be, the most valuable skill in our economy. People don’t fall for attractive ads anymore, they fall for the people and beliefs of the people in and behind companies. This trend is something I truly believe in but a lot of other people do not see this yet. Big examples to prove this theory are Gary Vaynerchuk, Casey Neistat, Simon Sinek and more.

“What is my master plan?”

First of all, I don’t really believe in making a plan. I’m at a point in my life where I do not ‘know’ what to do, or know anyone else that has been in this space. That’s why I don’t have a plan, I only have a general sense of the direction I want to go and every day I move closer to the path that goes in that direction. I love doing what I’m doing now, reaching out to innovators like, Queuehop, Spacious, smart-home, Ariel from Urbanist… and I love chatting with these people and sharing it with you.

My goal still is to move to New York City. The level of innovation and access to people is bigger and easier than anywhere else I have ever been before. There are so many different industries, different people, that are working on things I didn’t even know existed.

I talk to a lot of entrepreneurs that also moved from Belgium to the US and they all agree with me that step one of being an entrepreneur in Belgium is to leave the country. Belgium is overflowed by over-regulation and people that can not, or don’t want to, embrace the future. They are stuck in the past and are totally fine with staying there. I’m not judging anything or anyone here, all I’m trying to say is that that is an environment I can’t live with.

In the job interviews I’ve had in the last few months they always asked me one thing, why do you want to work for us? And this is the one and only response I gave them:

This is truly my only goal and I’m happy to say this is where I’m at right now. My roommates here in Brooklyn are some of the best people I’ve ever met. One of them wrote a song for my next video where I’ll explain more about what my blog will be about, my other roommate is a bad-ass designer and helped me make my blog, another roommate is writing the code of my website… It’s unbelievable and I want to thank all of them for being awesome humans. I also write these articles in Spacious, a new concept of coworking where they convert restaurants that are closed during the day into coworking spaces. I have an interview with them later this week and you’ll see an article about my first week here soon!

If you liked it please give this article a big Applause! 🙌 Have a great day everyone and for more articles and more information on what I do go check out my Website www.louisdekeyser.com
