👉Clean the area
Repairing a metal roof starts with thoroughly cleaning the surface. If a large branch or other object falls onto the roof surface, it can puncture the metal roof’s surface, but it’s also possible that corrosion and deterioration caused the hole. The area around the hole is likely to be dirty and needs to be cleaned, no matter what the cause of the hole is.
Simple Green or another cleaner can be used to thoroughly clean the metal panel’s surface until it is free of any dirt, film and/or algae growth. A wet cloth can remove any cleaner residue left behind, so be sure to wipe it down with a wet cloth once the cleaning is complete.

👉Scrub the area
Use a wire brush to scrape the area where the repair will be made after cleaning the metal panel. The sealant will adhere better to the metal if the surface has been scuffed. Only use the wire brush in the patched area; if you use it elsewhere, you risk removing the metal panel’s protective coating, which can lead to further deterioration.
