👉Measuring and cutting the new metal roof
Cut the sheet metal to the correct size for the patching job. At least 2 inches beyond the damaged area, the sheet metal patch should be applied to the metal panel. Once the sheet metal patch has been cut and fitted, use an emery cloth or file to round the corners so that snow and ice won’t catch on them.
Place the patch on top of the hole after it has been measured. Outline the patch with a pencil on the roof. Remove the patch and inspect the outline to ensure that the patch will extend at least 2 inches beyond the damaged area in all directions.

👉Attach the already-cutted piece
While staying just inside the pencil line, apply an identically colored urethane sealant to the metal panel being repaired. Make sure there are no gaps or voids at the patch’s leading edge by liberally applying the sealant.
Place the patch over the damaged area and press it down firmly. Sealant should ooze out of the patch’s edges on all sides before it dries. As long as the sealant isn’t bubbling or oozing, moisture can get underneath the patch and cause the patch to deteriorate. To ensure that there are no gaps, add a small amount of sealant here
