I told my story tonight at an AA speaker meeting. I could have, but didn’t, leave out that I’m trans.

A few people left during my story, but I have no way of knowing why, and honestly don’t care.

As an alcoholic, in recovery, my first duty is to “help the alcohlic who still suffers.”

I don’t usually tell people that I’m trans, they have no need to know. Within the fellowship, however, I have to reach out to the trans-people out there who are drinking and/or drugging themselves to death, right now, as I write this, and as you read it.

It may, possibly, be dangerous for me to out myself, as this is the deeep south, eastern North Carolina.

I have to do it, because it’s “the next right thing.”

I’m certainly not suggesting that you have some compelling reason to out yourself, just food for thought…
