Your points are well articulated but I do think it is an interesting, positive change by Medium. I’ve seen countless examples of clap emojis being used to show agreeance with social media posts and in private messaging. I also do agree with them allowing you to give more than one clap, in essence 'scoring' a post. I often find myself unsure whether to 'like' something minor equally as strong as something I feel more passionate about. Maybe clap is the new like/love. Also it’s (a clap) more relevant to publications (you’re making a stance or comment on a subject) vs content like imagery (aesthetically/emotionally pleasing). Also noone laughs when they type 'lol’, so maybe they don’t need to clap when they tap the clap button?
