Abrahamic Covenant
What is this Abrahamic Covenant? Why would anybody care? I spent years not even knowing there was a covenant. I was asked about the “Kingdom of God,” whether it existed already or was yet to come. I decided to develop topics referenced in later lessons to lay the foundation for understanding God’s Kingdom. The total number of studies should be either five or six, finishing with a discussion about the Kingdom. We will show that the Kingdom is not here yet. The unfulfilled status means that God plans to fulfill His promises at a future time when this current age comes to a close. Believers will be raptured out of Earth before Kingdom is installed. We don’t know when that time will come, nor did Jesus not know (Acts 1:5–8). The implication for believers is that we are not done serving God. Our priority is serving God with increased intensity. That’s the high overview. See the last row of Larkin’s drawing below.
We will cover the Old Testament (OT) covenants, discuss dispensations, and then different aspects of the coming kingdoms. Let’s return to the unconditional part of the Abrahamic promise. Faith dictates that we wait for God even if the circumstances make the culmination seem impossible. The alternative is to call God a liar. When a person makes an unconditional promise, then changes the rules, we call him a liar. We cannot put our lives in God’s hands, knowing that the rules may vary. God is truth; therefore, we must rely on faith that Israel will have its land eventually. This Kingdom, as described in Zech. 14:17 is “not yet.”
