The First Part of the Second Amendment

Most people seem to think that the Second Amendment exclusively says, “Everyone has the right to own a gun.”

But what it actually says is, “a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Well. Regulated.

This clause seems to get overlooked almost always.

It’s like when you hear a song that you love. Then you find out it’s by One Direction. And you think, “I’m just going to pretend I don’t know that.”

Our Founding Fathers knew that regulations would be necessary.

That’s why it’s in there, Hoss.
