One day at West Lake

Two days ago, around five in the afternoon, my husband and I went for a walk at West Lake. It’s half an hour drive away from our house. The weather was quite sunny but windy. We thought it was perfect.

When we arrived, there was hardly anyone there. It wasn’t as busy as we thought it would be.

From the paking lot, there is a volleyball net and play field available for visitors looking for a little light-hearted competition.

The park is clean and well maintained with easy access from the parking lot to the beach.

There are 15 km of trails which is easily accessible from the lake.

There are plenty of picnic tables and fire pits all around for barbeque and hotdog roasting. There are picnic shelters for larger groups with wood stove available as well. It is perfect for family or group events.

We brought some foods from A&W and sat on one of the picnic tables while enjoying the beautiful view and fresh cool air.

After we were done eating, we went for a walk to the other side of the lake.

My husband found a big log laying by the water’s edge. I thought it was perfect to take a picture of him sitting there.

The water was nice and warm. During hot summer days, lot’s of visitors go for swimming, canoeing, boating, fishing, jetskiing and waterskiiing in the lake.

One of the most incredible things that happened on our lake visit was when we saw an eagle fly by us and dip into the water, a second later it emerged from the water (empty handed) and assended quickly back into the air. We watched the eagle spread out it’s wings and soar in the sky until it landed in a nest at the top of the tree right next to us. When she landed in the nest we could hear eaglets cutely chirping to their mother. Sadly she didn’t have any food to give them.

Because the Eagle didn’t catch any fish, we waited beside the tree for a bit hoping that she would fly again but it didn’t happen, so we moved along and I took this picture of the sun shining through the trees instead.

While walking back, my husband was acting silly and did some poses by the lake. Haha

Then we sat down on one of the benches for a while snuggling with our eyes closed while smelling the fresh air and enjoying the feeling of cool breeze in our skin. It was so quiet and calm and beautiful.

It was a great walk, we left feeling refreshed by nature
