ARIEL (LIVE ACTION)- 10

ARIEL (CARTOON VERSION)- 9

Both had the same playful and mischievous characters. Both exhibited same emotions. I do feel that Live Action Ariel had a more mesmerising voice than Cartoon version Ariel.

PRINCE ERIC (Live Action)- 10

The cartoon version and real life execution was excellent.

SEBASTIAN (Live Action)- 2

SEBASTIAN (Cartoon Action)- 10

First of all, Sebastian (LA) does not even deserve to be called Sebastian. Apart from the Jamaican accent, Sebastian (LA) looked more of those toys for two year olds rather than an actual character. I understand that they were trying to make him as real as possible, however, they failed miserably.

Sebastian (LA) had no swag like Sebastian (CV). I’m pretty sure that if Sebastian (CV) existed, he would have watched his (LA) character with his mouth hanging open out of sheer disappointment.

FLOUNDER THE FISH (Live Action)- 1

FLOUNDER THE FISH (Cartoon Version)- 10

Flounder (LA) was a sore in the eyes to watch. I admit that they wanted to make him as real as possible, but he looked like he had just drunk Ursula’s poison and was in the process of recovering before the Disney producers asked him to be part of the Live Action re- make.

URSULA (LA)- 10

Excellent! Really excellent! I loved both of them — their evilness, their personalities and voices. They both deserved an Oscar.

KING TRITON (LA)- 10

I didn’t see much difference between them. Neither outshined the other.

THE BIRD (LIVE ACTION)- 10

THE BIRD (CARTOON VERSION)- 5

First of all, the Live Action Bird was divine. I mean, Disney out did itself in this Live Action. The Bird in (LA) was a bubbly lady and I just loved her jokes and her entire personality. She actually out- performed the Bird in Cartoon Version who was a guy. I mean sure, the jokes were similar, but it just wasn’t the same. The Live action Bird was like that student who copied test answers from the smarter kid and got better grades.

THE DAUGHTERS OF THE SEA (LIVE ACTION)- 8

THE DAUGHTERS OF THE SEA (CARTOON VERSION)- 10

Filmmusiccentral.com

King Triton’s daughters from Live Action were wiser and nobler while King Triton’s daughters from the cartoon version were more charismatic and lively.

THE SEA (LIVE ACTION)- 4

THE SEA (CARTOON VERSION)- 8

The Live Action Sea was just too dark. It was too cold and not colourful enough. It looked like a cave where the action was being made. On the other hand, the Sea in the cartoon version was better and more colourful. It wasn’t as powerful but it was okay.

PRINCE ERIC’S KINGDOM (LIVE ACTION)- 1

PRINCE ERIC’S KINGDOM (CARTOON VERSION)- 10

The Kingdom in Live Action is only a 1 because it actually existed. Otherwise, it was so tiny that it looked like a small group of fishermen living near the castle. Was Disney being economic?

THE STORYLINE (LIVE ACTION)- 10

THE STORY LINE (CARTOON VERSION)- 9

I have to admit, I was expecting disappointing changes in the storyline for Live Action. The changes were there, but very subtle. I actually think that the Live action storyline made more sense than the cartoon version. For example, Ariel in Live Action actually lost her memory when it came to kissing the Prince. Which actually made more sense because then, she would actually bond with the prince better than with the cartoon version where she knew that she needed to kiss the prince.

The final part also showed Ariel (Live Action) actually staring at the castle longingly while Ariel (Cartoon version) was staring at the Prince longingly. This shows that Ariel (Live action) desired to live on land amongst the humans while Cartoon version Ariel desired to be with the Prince. Both are okay.
