International Sign Language Day is celebrated in the last week of September.
- History of the World Deaf Day
The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) celebrated the first World Deaf Day in 1958. It is a global NGO that aims to advance the rights of the deaf community and improve their standard of living - Sign language
In this language there are signs for almost all known words and for the execution of the signs, hand movement is used, in addition to facial and body expressions, when necessary - The theme of the international date, defined by the World Federation of the Deaf, “ We Sign for Human Rights ” demonstrates the need to strengthen and support sign languages as an essential human right for the deaf
On International Sign Language Day, collective efforts – deaf communities are celebrated, governments and civil society representatives – to recognize and promote more than 200 different national sign languages worldwide
Here in Nigeria, we (sign language interpreter and teachers) appreciate and respect the deaf community
