Guide to the Hebrew and Jewish Terms in Netflix Jewish Matchmaking

Aleeza asked me to help her define the the Hebrew and Jewish cultural terms in Netflix Jewish Matchmaking Season 1. Obviously, we weren’t going to give you some boring definitions. Here is what I came up with. If you are unfamiliar with the terms and actually came here to get the real definitions. Let’s just say this is my humorous take on it. Oh yeah, and I threw in a few screenshots from the show to keep you entertained.

Bashert: Bashert is the Yiddish term for finding your soulmate, your honey-bunny, your partner in crime. But it’s not just any old match — it’s the one who’s going to help you fulfill your divine purpose. Like, no pressure or anything. They’re the peanut butter to your jelly, the avocado to your toast, the hot sauce to your taco. They’ll challenge you, support you, and make you a better person — but hopefully, they won’t steal your fries. So if you find your Bashert, hold onto them tight and don’t let go, unless they’re trying to take the last slice of pizza, then all bets are off.
