What is Kaolin Clay?
Kaolin clay is a natural beauty product that can be used on the skin to help clean and balance it. It has been used in natural skin care routines as an effective way to heal many skin conditions, such as acne or eczema.
Mined all over the world from China to the USA, the main component of kaolin is the mineral kaolinite. It is a type of soft white cosmetic clay that is named after the Kaoling mountain in China where it was mined for centuries.
While pure kaolinite is bright white, kaolin clay typically has slight variations in color due to other minerals being present. Here is what the hues are telling you about the clay:
- Pinkish: A result of containing iron oxide
- Greenish: From decomposing plant material
The rule of thumb when it comes to kaolin clay is the whiter it is, the better quality it is.
Kaolin clay is used for soaps, scrubs, deodorants, facial masks, and powders because of its ability to enhance and purify the skin.
