The announcement of Taylor Swift’s new album might have stolen the spotlight — but we at dotBlockchain Media have made two very exciting announcements this week!

First, we are very pleased to let you know that Chris McMurtry is coming aboard to head up data for the dotBlockchain project this year. Chris is the Head of Music at the LA-based payments company, Exactuals; the founder of Dart, The Music Metadata Company™; and developer of RAI, an entity resolution system for normalizing metadata. Chris will continue in these roles while assisting dotBlockchain Media in all things data.

On August 22, we also announced that we have selected the Linux Foundation’s Hyperledger Sawtooth as the platform for recording our content rights registry for the media industries. Hyperledger Sawtooth is an open-source blockchain framework originally contributed to the Linux Foundation by Intel. This is a key advancement in the development of our blockchain initiative to bring clarity and transparency to the complex data, rights and payment issues in today’s music and media industries.

Hyperledger Sawtooth will enable us to scale rapidly and customize transaction processors specifically for ingesting rights data. We look forward to delivering a strong and lasting solution, anchored on a sophisticated and secure blockchain foundation, for the music and media industries with Intel.
