Feeling Stuck

You know when you have all the ideas in your head, but you can’t seem to action them? When you have something on your to-do list errrrrrry damn day, every damn week and maybe even every damn month and you can’t tick it off? When you just feel stuck? Yep, that’s me right now.

For the past month I’ve obviously been a little busy, and have embraced maternity leave with aplomb. I can’t remember the last time I took so long off writing on the blog (I scheduled stacks of content in advance of my due date). At first it was freeing, and a novelty to wake up every day and not look at my to-do list or check social media, think of content ideas and reply to comments and emails.

Then I got a bit bored.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE motherhood and spending time with Anaïs never gets dull. But I do miss using my brain, and flexing my creative muscles too.

When I went on maternity leave (the day I gave birth!) I had no idea what to expect. Truth be told, while I loved pregnancy I’ve always been waiting for something bad to happen (is that just me?) so I presumed I’d hate motherhood…or at least, that I’d find it really hard.

So I presumed I’d not have time to do anything bar look after a baby, cry about my lack of sleep and look after the dog. And, as such, I worked my ass off scheduling stacks of posts ahead of time so I would have a decent amount of breathing space. I even hired a VA to help with my social profiles. The only thing I’ve stayed super active on is Instagram, and that’s purely because I honestly can’t get enough of it!

But as it goes, newborns sleep…..a lot! And as they can’t move you can actually get quite a lot done when they’re awake too! So right about now — four weeks into maternity leave — I’m super keen to get back to writing. I don’t want to pick up any proper paid work just yet, but I really want to spend the next few months working on passion projects.

Writing on this blog, writing prolifically and often. I also want to get cracking with the ‘April Project’ that I’ve been working on for almost a year. I am currently in a catatonic state because I can’t work out the technical side of it, and can’t find anyone to help me with it……it’s SO annoying!

And the blog? Well…..I can’t think of what I want to write. I want to write something, anything, but I’m frozen with writers block.

I’ve loved writing about pregnancy, but that came to a natural end on Sunday with the birth story post. I’ve also LOVED sharing my blogging knowledge, but honestly — I can’t think of any other useful tips I can share. I’m not travelling at the moment until Anaïs has a passport and, honestly, I hate writing about London (is that terrible?!).

So, what on earth does a writer desperate to write with nothing to write about, write about?!

Instagram cup of coffee

Naturally, I took to Instagram to ask the ever glorious Insta-family what they wanted to read about. And, happily, I have a whole stack of content ideas brewing away, ready to be written.

Watch this space.
