My Favourite Places to Eat & Drink in Bangkok

Bangkok is a city for decadence. It’s perfect for a night out feasting on food, quaffing all the drinks you can responsibly manage and squeezing in some dancing too.

These five places tick all of my boxes when it comes to a fab night of flashpacking fun, WanderLuce style.

1. Cinema Winehouse | This place, run by the adorably bonkers Shamik, is a vintage style wine bar at first look. At second, you realise it’s packed to the rafters with character, and the menu is full of Texan comfort food (the quesadilla’s are my fave), great drinks (the house Red is decent & only 90 THB/£2!) and the piece de resistance — the upstairs Cinema! 2. Ad Here the 13th | Right next door to Cinema Winehouse is this little gem, which despite being in the Lonely Planet, remains hidden. In fact, a blogger I follow who considers themselves to be practically Thai only discovered it recently….much to my smugness ;) It’s essentially a tiny little blues bar, and plays live music of all varieties every night. It’s a great place for a nightcap and makes a cracking Whiskey Sour. WanderLuce pick: Why, a whiskey sour of course!
3. Cheap & Dreamy Breakfast Place | This little breakie spot (underneath the Bang Lamphu Bridge on Sam Sen Rd on the Ad Here side) is where I head to daily, for no-nonsense Thai/Farang classics like omelette sandwich or muesli, fruit and yoghurt. The prices rarely go above 60 THB (£1) and you can get a cracking fruit shake (just ask for ‘Nit Noy’ sugar!) for less than 50p. WanderLuce pick: Omelette sandwich, Lipton Tea & a lemon shake (less than 100 THB for the lot)
4. Madame Musur | I actually can’t believe that 2015 saw my 1000th trip to Bangkok, and my first to this gem. Nestled on Soi Rambuttri (the cooler, quirkier road parallel to Khao San) you could blink and miss Madame Musur. Happily, we didn’t and were rewarded with some of the best Lanna Northern Thai food around. The cocktails weren’t half bad either! 5. Ethos | The vegan, raw food movement is alive and kicking, even in Bangkok and this fabulous restaurant, run by an awesome Irish dude is probably my favourite veggie restaurant around. It even beats Mildred’s in London, which I thought would forever have my heart. Needless to say, the service is fantastic, the portions HUGE and the smoothies to die for. The WiFi is insanely zippy too. WanderLuce pick: Vegan Lasagne & Tamarind Coconut Smoothie (about 400 THB)
