Beacon College graphic design students get creative to support LSSC Kids’ College

LEESBURG, Fla., December 6, 2016 — Catch Your Dreams. This is the theme given to students at Beacon College in Leesburg who recently completed a graphic design project in support of Kids’ College at Lake-Sumter State College.

Students in Professor Sandy Novak’s intro to visual communications courses were given parameters and creative license to create artwork that would become the Kids’ College logo for the summer. Drawing inspiration from the Catch Your Dreams theme, the students created a wide variety of interesting designs — from butterflies to dragons.

Rick Palmer and DeAnna Diggs from Continuing Education at LSSC reviewed the completed designs and chose top designs from each class.

“I was really impressed by the creativity and quality of work from the student’s in Professor Novak’s classes,” said DeAnna Diggs, who runs Kids’ College for LSSC. “These were some of the most creative design concepts we’ve ever had for the Kids’ College.”

Two top designs were chosen from each of Professor Novak’s courses. The overall choice, designed by David Goldstein, will be used by LSSC to create the final Kids’ College 2017 artwork. This artwork will be in handouts and promo materials, on t-shirts and polos, and on the Kid’s College website.

A special thank you to each student who contributed a design to this project. And congratulations to Matt Adair, Sarah Brown, David Goldstein, and Giancarlo Trocola who were selected as the top designs.

David Goldstein’s design with the lightning bugs in the jar was the top choice and will be used to create a lightning bug themed design for Kids’ College 2017.

“This was a great opportunity for these students to gain design experience while working for a real-world client,” said Sandy Novak, Beacon College professor. “They started by sketching their concepts before moving to the computer to create them digitally.”
