Know about the Fishing Methods and Equipment

The tool used to capture the aquatic resources is the fishing gear. On the other hand, the fishing method involves how the gear can be of use. Harvesting organisms comes under the category of Gear, but there is no involvement of any particular gear. It can be used in many different ways while the usage of fishing methods and equipment depend highly on the annex principles.

The following are the common fishing methods and equipment used. They are

• Trawling

This method is used mostly for the fishes that live in deep water like the hoki, orange roughy, squid, hake and ling. Trawling is one of the most popular and common fishing method used for commercial purpose. A fishing boat draws a net large in size, mostly in the water midst and on the seafloor on a few occasions.

• Seining

Seining is a method where a net is dropped to catch the school of fish. This method involves two types like the Danish Seining, where the fishes are caught at the sea bottom and Purse Seining, where the catching of fish is done near the surface.

• Dredging

Dredging is a method which is used to collect oysters and scallops from the shallow water. Steel net is towed on the fishing boat, down the seafloor. It then sweeps the shellfish habiting there.

• Line Fishing

This is one of the most common and popular fishing methods which involves two methods like the long lines and hand lines.

The long lines have a shorter fishing line hanging through it. It has a hook and baits attached to it. At each end of the mainline, it is anchored, stopping it from sinking.

Hand lines are mainly used for recreational fishers. It is a single fishing line which is attached to the rod and is clutched by hands.
