13 Ways For McDonalds To Get More Money From Me (and other average folks)

I should probably right this post anonymously, but Good or bad, I eat at McDonalds…always have, always will. I’m like their ideal customer. Their sales have been down as of late and I listed some ideas that might help them out. Some of the ideas are good, some bad, but all perhaps worth testing…

1. Sweet Tea Club. A simple punch card might work (like McAllister’s). Also what about a program that if you buy so many sweet teas a week (or month) you can then buy sweat teas the following week (or month) for 75 cents instead of $1.

2. I love the add a sandwich for $1 deals. I also stop at gas stations occasionally and buy a bag of chocolate gem donuts (or powder donuts), usually Little Debbie or Hostess for $2. Would love if could add a bag of donuts to a breakfast value meal for $1 or buy outright for $2. I am often in car for work and snack on those bag of donuts all day.

3. I don’t think the McWings worked, but what about beef jerky. Not my best idea but perhaps worth testing?

4. Unlimited sweet tea (or coffee) that month for certain price (maybe $10). So many people (not me of course )pull through just to buy a sweet tea or coffee and then wind up buying breakfast or lunch since they are already there. Unlimited tea or coffee, already purchased, would bring back droves of customers day after day.

5. I’ve thought McDonald;s needed mozzarella sticks for a long time. I saw them on the menu a few weeks ago and was excited. The problem is, they were horrible. So was the marinara sauce. (Why didn’t they call me?) They seriously need to test different brands of mozzarella sticks and marinara. If they can get the right combo I would eat them all the time. Also, a fun idea that would make me more likely to buy mozzarella sticks is if you made them in the shape of a chicken McNugget. Just sayin.

6. This one you absolutely must do. I eat your breakfast burritos because they are cheap. They are not very good. Many mornings I go out of my way to go by Sonic or Chik-fil-a because they have a much better breakfast burrito. McDonald’s absolutely needs a premium breakfast burrito (both sausage and chicken like Chik-fil-a). Your salsa is much better than Chik-fil-a by the way.

7. Explore more paleo items. The paleo diet is big right now, especially among CrossFit gyms. I try to eat paleo often but usually lose the battle because it is so hard to find food on the go that is paleo. Ideas might be a salad minus all the gluten and preservatives. Another might be beef jerky. I’m sure your test kitchen could come up with more.

8. That brings me to sweet potato fries. Not sure if Burger King did well on theirs, but I would order them at McDonalds. Worth looking into at least (or seeing what other kind of sweet potato items you could come up with, since sweet potatoes are technically paleo, I think).

9. I don’t know how well your current cheeseburger is selling. I eat them often, but mostly out of habit. The cheeseburger is really tired in my opinion. I liked the angus burgers but I assume since you got rid of those perhaps they weren’t selling well. McDonalds need another tier of burgers besides the cheeseburger and quarter pounder. Again, your testing might show otherwise but I think that your menu is missing something by not including another great burger. (Update…I wrote this a few months ago and it appears you have added a sirloin burger. Well played).

10. 4 words: Hot ham and cheese. My wife often vetoes McDonalds for Hardees just so she can get a hot ham and cheese. She’s the boss.

11. I have not checked out the McDonald’s iphone app, but would be highly intersted in the app if I know it saved my previous orders and I could order from the app (and pay). Instead of waiting in a long drive through line, I should be able to use the app and the meal should be brought out to a designated parking spot or marked inside table (or something similar).

12. A Chicken select burger.

13. Breakfast sausage or hash browns shaped like chicken nuggets. Again, just sayin.

Good luck McDonalds.
