How Mark Zuckerberg Influences People?

The influencer I’d love to talk about today is Mark Zuckerberg, the guy who has a big influence on my personal life.

As the founder of Facebook, the social platform with 1.3 billion users, Mark’s daily online influence to his 31 million fans is also unconventional. After following him for a year, I have observed a few major topics he love to posts:

  1. His life at Facebook:
  • The town hall Q&A, answering questions from employees. This shows that Facebook is an open company that listens to their employees and their users. An epic example is his answer to the question “why do you wear the same gray shirt each day? ” He said, “ I’m in this really lucky position where I get to wake up every day and help serve more than 1bn people, and I feel like I’m not doing my job if I spend any of my energy on things that are silly or frivolous about my life, so that way I can dedicate all of my energy towards just building the best products and services.” This answer shows how the unique perspective of a world leader and makes me think how I can minimize the daily routines to focus on the things that really matter.
  • The launch of new product or features. The example will be “say thanks” video launched last year. When he shares about his, he always post it from the perspective of his users, and keep repeating the vision: to make the world more open and connected.
  • Other positive things such as the revenue of Facebook.

2. His personal life:

  • He shares a lot about his time with his wife and sometimes his dog. By sharing these life moments which every followers can relate to, it makes him more human and approachable as an influencer.
  • His reading list. Each year he will ask his followers to vote for a habit that he will adopt in the whole year and this year is the habit of reading. He is committed to reading a book every two weeks and share his readings on the page “A Year of Books”. This initiative not only makes him more charismatic, but influence more followers to adopt the habit of continuous learning.

3. The Non-profit:

Facebook launched the Internet.org project, intending to bring the internet connection to all the countries in the world. He is actively visiting each countries, meeting with country leaders to move the things forward. In majority of his posts, the vision is always clear: to make the world more open and connected.

Facebook is 11 years old, and Mark is no longer the 19 years young boy. For this 11 years, his growth as an CEO and as a world leader is tremendous, largely due to his diligence and vision of making the world a better place. Though thinking of how to be influencial is important, I think the best way to shine is to be who you really are and live the life to the fullest.
