Pokemon Go Is Making Your Kids Stupid !
Experts 5 years ago: “Augmented reality will transform education, healthcare, construction, commerce…” Experts Today: “Pokemon!!!”(Aron Levie)
No, you are wrong! Pokemon Go is making my kids smarter!
Everyone is talking about Pokemon Go! nowadays and everyone has a different opinion:
- “Pokemon Go! threatens our species” :)
- “How Pokemon Go! Explains Brexit” :)
- “Holocaust Museum to Pokemon Go fans: Please don’t play here” (CBS)
- “What can you do when Pokémon Go decides your house is a gym?” (The Verge)
- “Pokemon Go! player finds unconscious woman behind the wheel” (NBC)
- “A parents’ guide to play Pokemon with your kids” (Lifehacker)”
- “Pokemon Go! connects us to our cities and neighbors” (New York Times)
- “Pokemon Go! may be the greatest unintentional health fad ever” (The Vox)
And I could go on and on…
But what the heck is Pokemon Go ?
Pokémon Go is an augmented reality video game (click on the link for the official video trailer). It is unique, free and extremely addictive because it interfaces with the real world. The objective of the game is to walk to real places in the real world to collect in-game supplies and catch the Pokemon characters. It uses simple gamification techniques to drive you to play more and more.
This “crazy” game is about to overtake Twitter in terms of daily active users. Armed robbers used Pokemon Go to lure victims to a “pokestop” & rob them, there are several reports of injuries due to the game, and police have had to warn players about trespassing and getting shot.
My mum used to say:” Stop playing video games and go outside!”. Modern mums say: “Stop playing outside with augmented reality games and come inside!”. I start to believe in parallel universes and I now know that we definitely live in a computer simulation (Elon Musk cannot be wrong). The future is crazy and hyper-reality is closer than you think.
