Critique of multimedia about travel
- 52 Places to Go in 2016

This piece of multimedia introduces 52 places for travel in 2016 briefly and every place introduction is accompanied with a beautiful photo or GIF. What attracts me most is the splendid or artistic photos and GIFs, which can be a visual enjoyment for every readers.

Every introduction of the place includes not only the picture and text but also a small map to show the geographic position and some related URLs for more information and suggestions of this place.

The only place I am familiar with is Hangzhou in China. But the scenery shown in this page is not known well for most Chinese, let alone for foreigners. Then I wonder why they do not choose the photo of West Lake or some other famous scenic spots. After I read the following text I know why the multimedia author chooses this photo: it represent the new face of Hangzhou and this building merges the ancient and modern style.
And it leads to another problem: although some pictures show the unusual scenery of this place, there are still many places which are accompanied with the photos of the most well-known building or landscape. For example, the photo of Barcelona in Spain is the aerial view of Barcelona Cathedral. Therefore, from my point of view, the selection of pictures should be unified: the traditional scenic spot or somewhere new.
It is too long for me to get though the whole page and read all the texts. As a result, my suggestion is to add a catalog with bookmark hyperlink of these 52 places at the beginning or in the side of the whole page so that readers can directly find their interested places and enjoy it.
2. Norway the slow way

This is another multimedia related to travel: the slow daily life in Norway, which is a travel note actually. It includes many aspects to show “why slow” and “how slow” in Norway.
The shining point of this multimedia is the storytelling and the simple but cute hand-painted motion graph. Author uses vivid language to describe his or her experience in Norway. The five pieces of simple hand-printed animation can be regarded as a creative type of chart and map whose style is conformed to the tone of the article.

The only drawback I think is that the pictures of landscape is not enough. For a multimedia on the Internet, picture seems to be more attractive than text, although the text here is interesting.
THE COMPARATION OF THESE TWO MULTIMEDIA ABOUT TRAVEL
Compared with the second one, the first is not abundant enough in multimedia types. The language is more formal and it summaries more clearly and systemically. But as a whole, this one is more monotonous in form. And the pictures in the second multimedia is less attractive than the first. The full-screen video may cover this shortage. In conclusion, the best suggestion of these two pieces of multimedia is to learn from the others’ strong points to offset it own weakness.
