How can a experience be so touching and life-changing? How can I get to feel at home in a place that is so different and where I just stayed for a month?

I can’t even describe with words how deep and inspiring this trip has been, I would have never imagined that it would be such an enriching adventure and that it would change me the way it has.

I have learned about myself, about a whole different culture, a new language, diverse ways of thinking, and has allowed me to learn one very important thing: That you are not always able to be in full control of every situation. While in China I was not able to understand anything, so I just had to let others to make decisions, just let it flow, which was hard at first.

Being at a country were no one can understand you and where you can’t understand anything makes your everyday a new adventure and challenges you. Not being able to order food on your own or to even make your grocery shopping at a supermarket makes you feel a little bit stupid, but it’s part of the experience and you get used to it.

Spending one month on my own and away from home has helped me to get another perspective about things, it has broaden my horizons.

Unknown culture to explore

All the stereotypes about China and their culture have been blown away from my head, because talking about China is like talking about Europe as a single country, so people must not generalize the country. Now I can say with certainty that Chinese people are not as different from us as we usually think, they are familiar, friendly and loving. In general they are very respectful towards foreigners and always making sure everything is good for us. I also discovered that fried spring rolls and prawn crackers are not even know in china, and that for the famous pekin duck you only eat the duck’s skin, not the meat. It’s true that their way of interpreting some situations and understanding is very diverse from ours, but in the end I believe we are not as different as everyone thinks.

I will definitely go back to this exciting and futuristic city, and I am sure everything will have changed, as it is improving at a pace that no one can even imagine. New skyscrapers that aim to be one of the tallest in the world, new technological companies and millions of entertainment possibilities are being build in a city that has less than 40 years of history and where everything is new.
