Today in Ironhack prework, I made a design thinking exercise.

Context :

Whole Bank is an American bank in Massachusetts. They want to giving customers innovative options. They are interested in traveling customers, and would like to develop a tool to let the bank customers pay without having to use the physical card. Whole Bank already develop a mobile application for their customers.

Our task was to create a feature for this application that allow the bank customers to pay for things using the mobile app.

For this exercise, I used design thinking process.

Empathize :

For get a better idea of the problem, I asked myself different questions :

What problem are you solving ? Create a feature for a mobile application that allows to pay for things without physical card when Whole Bank customers traveling.

What is your audience ? Whole Bank customers who use smartphone and travel.

After that, I did user interviews, to have different information about the payment habits on the trip. This allowed me to bring out traits that I will be able to use later to create personas.

How often do you travel internationnaly ?

In which country was your last trip ?

What is your type of trip ? (in backpack, organized…)

Do you travel with a smartphone ?

How you organize your spending money on a trip abroad ?

Which payment method do you use for your purchases ?

Are you open to use digital payment mode on a trip ?

Define :

After the empathize phase and users interview, I define the main problem that I’m trying to solve.

How to facilitate payments when traveling abroad with a mobile application ?

Ideate :

For finding a solution to my main problem, I used brainstorming technique. I thought about my problem and I wrote all the ideas that went through my head. I sorted out the most relevant ideas, and chosen three solutions.

Prototype :

I developed my solutions in a few hand-sketched screens.

Conclusion :

During the exercise, I appreciated users interview and brainstorming exercise because we met the future users and you can imagine all possibilities for solution. It was not easy to choose one solution, imagined all interactions and developed it with hand-sketch. It’s a real long work !
