An Update on the Thought Leaders of Our Universe

Six weeks ago, we put together a blog on the Lucro Brainpower to show you what types of health systems made up the Lucro community and aggregated all the projects you were working on. A lot can happen in six weeks: that’s three development sprints, 13 Preds games, and 30 new project boards in Lucro.

Who is a part of the Lucro brainpower?

Here is an overview of our acute health system population. In the past six weeks, we’ve also gained a foothold in the post-acute space, national treatment centers, national ambulatory surgical centers, physician associations, and independent practices.

In Lucro, health systems create ‘Boards’ that represent projects where they’re addressing challenges that support their strategic priorities. The goal is to help internal alignment and define topics of interest that may need new (or currently owned) products or services to solve — whether clinical, financial or operational.

From the initial inventory of boards in Lucro, I identified these main categories other health systems are focusing their resources on and seeking innovative solutions:

Our Retention & Satisfaction category became so large with our additional project Boards that it split into Patient & Provider Satisfaction and Care Coordination.

I wanted to call out some interesting projects that we’re starting to see. Our Lucro Brainpower Partners are clearly ahead of the curve, already diving into updated technology solutions to advance behavioral health needs and breaking into blockchain for healthcare.

It continues to surprise me that traditional telehealth is losing ground across the spectrum of care facilities. Instead, people are looking to understand different ways to reach patients outside of a traditional inpatient care setting. Some examples include virtual visits, improvement of post-discharge follow-up, and medication compliance post discharge. Providers are increasingly looking to improve patient outcomes instead of focusing solely on readmission rates (which warms my heart).

What problems are you working on? These are detailed and specific examples to help you define your strategic initiatives into Lucro Boards.

  • Virtual Reality Pain Management for Oncology
Objective: Test virtual reality as a tool for managing pain and anxiety throughout the lifecycle of a patient’s stay receiving surgery for gastrointestinal malignancy. The desired short and long term outcomes are 1.) determine if virtual reality is an effective tool for reducing pain, 2.) decrease opioid usage, and 3.) have another option to control pain. 4) Decrease LOS
  • Clinic Wait Time & Queue Management
Objective: Our clinics need a better system for tracking and communicating wait times. We are looking for help balancing schedules to minimize wait times, to be able to publish wait times with patient alerts, and improve our patient experience at clinics.
  • Tissue Inventory Management
Objective: We need a way of tracking and managing our tissue inventory so that we are able to capture charges, track and maintain a high volume and high dollar value of tissue. The solution needs to provide secure, temperature controlled storage, automatically track all required measures mandated by TJC including an electronic chain of custody (from receipt to implantation) specific to tissue. The solution must support HIPAA guidelines for communication of PHI. The solution must also verify that suppliers are FDA registered and provide alerts for expiration dates.
