During these extraordinary times, it’s imperative for museums, galleries, and art fairs to stay connected — and forge new connections — with their audiences. Judging by the popularity of these art-related hashtags, it’s clear that audiences are hungry for some culture in their newsfeed.

Why Is Collaboration Important?
Collaboration provides an opportunity for everyone, especially smaller institutions, to be seen in the grand scheme of the internet. With the incredible volume of digital content being shared, we’re all constantly clamoring for attention from audiences. Collaborations—with larger institutions, other local organizations, and even mainstream media companies—amplify our messaging and increase the likelihood that it will be seen by viewers online.

Ways to Collaborate
During this unprecedented time while physical spaces are closed, arts organizations are all in the same boat—so how can these institutions collaborate while physical spaces are closed?

  • #MuseumGames invites institutions to submit clues and answers for a crossword puzzle distributed by Akron Art Museum each week. But that’s not all, there are many other ideas being tossed around that will soon be in the works, like “I Spy,” “Spot the Difference,” “Two Truths, One Lie,” and more. Contact Seema R. and Mar Dixon for details on how to get involved!
  • #MuseumMomentofZen “is more about assuaging your agitated mind by offering artworks and other tranquil imagery from around the world on Instagram and Twitter.” —via TimeOut NY
  • “Stay at Home Challenge” via @tussenkunstenquarantaine calls for submissions from regular folks around the world to recreate their favorite artworks with items from around the house. Join the fun on behalf of your institution by having staff (social media, digital, or otherwise) submit their own, and then post to the museum’s accounts!

P.S. If you’re a Museum Social Media Manager and you’re not already a member of this group on Facebook, submit a request to join today! Remember to answer BOTH questions in order to streamline the approval process.
