#3 — exactly. It’s like having a latte machine, hiring barista’s, putting up signs, putting in all kinds of money to market that there is ‘coffee on campus’ but forgetting to buy espresso beans…..and then, when someone points this out, ‘hey…remember that coffee fair we went to? and all the emails about how it would be great to have coffee? and then you hired me to make the coffee? …um ….’ you are basically saying ‘I don’t have time for this’. Its not a priority? Why? It’s not JUST about hiring. It’s about how we live. As humans. It’s about making a conscious decision to set up shop in one of the most culturally diverse places in the world (Bay Area) and then locking people out but paying lip service that you’re not. It’s a problem. It’s a HUGE problem to be the one in charge and say its ‘not a priority’ when clearly our country is showing us that it is one of THE MOST IMPORTANT PRIORITIES of our time.
It Takes COURAGE to Really Change Diversity Hiring Practices
