Nothing Beats Preparation

Today I had another call for the job, like I do every day.

It was terrible.

Not only was my energy low, I was unprepared. I came in with a vague idea of what I was going to do. To top it off, my boss was there to listen to all of it.

Good things is I got great feedback, and a few lessons.

First, nothing beats preparation. I mean yeah, you can in theory wing it. But that only happens when you’ve already prepared enough from the past. You can’t make stuff up out of thin air because you need something to draw on. That is of course, unless the other person knows nothing about the topic. But then there’s no point in you dealing with them in the first place.

Second, your mistakes are specific and you can fix them. My solution will be to listen to the call I recorded and go through every time I messed up. I’ll pinpoint exactly where I got thrown off. Then, I’ll have all the time in the world to create good answers to those problems. Then it’s just a matter of remembering when and why it makes sense.

Nothing beats preparation.
