The next iPhone will suck
We live in a world full of rumors and gossip, because yes, we are humans and as part of our nature there is the desire to know what’s beyond our scope. The trick is how you control it.

Now, what does this have to do with the iPhone? Well, everyday I check in the morning while having breakfast -or before I got out of bed, in the 15 minutes on average that takes me to realize that I’m alive and that it is another day- my news feeds. I grab my iPad and start scrolling through what I think it’s important in 3 different categories: 1) Tech 2) Graphic Design blogs and 3) News from Perú and the US. What I’ve noticed since a while ago is that no day goes by without having at least 2 or 3 entries on blogs about rumors about the next iPhone.
Why do we have such desperation for knowing what the next iPhone will look like? Wasn’t it better in the old days when we were anxious and full of expectation, barely holding our curiosity waiting for the keynote in which the new devices were to be unveiled? I wonder.
There is this kid on Youtube -and don’t get me wrong, I like his reviews and handy info he provides about tech in general - that runs this channel called Everything Apple Pro. There are at least two videos per week in which he goes into details of last rumors about the new iPhone. The funny thing is that it’s like a roller coaster with this. One video is full of excitement because the really cool features everybody expects are to be included. The next one, a couple days later, it’s all sadness because said features will not be included. It’s like dealing with a menopausal woman with all the mood swings. Dear Lord, I think.
And just like this channel, there are a lot more on Youtube that constantly appear on my recommended list. That makes me think the impact in viewers and users of this product. If you add up the reports on tech spaces of some magazines like WSJ for example, Twitter “noise” and some facebook stories then you have a pretty large amount of people longing for something that it is based on questionable assumptions and rumors. Yes, rumors.
Let me define rumor for you.
A currently circulating story or report of UNCERTAIN or DOUBTFUL truth.
So, what do we have again? A large amount of people with high expectations on a product that will probably won’t see the light of day this next September.
I can see how it can be exciting to know some leaks but, really people? This iPhone 8 hype is really stupid and does nothing but letting people down when they get to see the final product. Yes, I’d like to know the things that may or may not be tested for next iterations in general of my phone but not every freaking day and on every source of information.
The negative impact that all this hype creates is even acknowledged by Apple now.
Peter Oppenheimer – Apple’s CFO:
We’re reading the same rumors and speculation about a new iPhone as you are, and we think this has affected sales
Even Tim Cook has said that rumors affect iPhone sales in China back in May for God´s sake!
But that’s for them to worry. I worry about me and the people around me that are iPhone users. See, I don’t want to get dragged by all that hype and then get so disappointed in September when I don’t see wireless charging on the new iPhone, or the fingerprint sensor under the screen, or facial recognition, etc. I just want Apple to unveil the best iPhone they can every 2 years. And in the end, if that product is not better than the one I currently have then I have two options:
A) I simply won’t buy it and stick to my current phone.
B) I go for a new device like a Google Pixel. That’s a beautiful phone fully optimized for the OS that runs on it.
But, just like I said on a previous post. It’s up to you Apple! Bring back the magic!
