This is how I do Wireframe in a general sense
My very first article on Medium.
As a UX/ IxD designer, wireframe is a way to communicate design ideas and further verify business value and technological limitations at the very initial stage. I am always surprised of how non-designers see the wireframe in different ways. Therefore, I would like to write down something not only for myself as a note but also for other fellow designers if they find it useful.
Basically I got two approaches:
Showing to tech people
The important question we ask them are: Can they make this flow happen? Can a particular pieces of information be available at a certain step?
The way to make this type of wireframe is to be as specific as possible, regarding the element used and the task the user is going to conduct. However, it’s not about the “beautiful” shape of the elements but about “definition” of the elements need to be clear. E.g. is this list an ordered or a non-ordered?
Showing to business people
The fundamental questions we ask are: Does this idea have business value? Can we sell it?
In that case, trying to flash it out a bit. Giving the wireframe some necessary detail to arise those people’s interests. For example, give radius to the button, place some dummy pictures to make it feel a little real. Be careful not to overdo it since you will give them wrong expectations of the final design. Finally you don’t want to waste much time on making wireframe.
Conclusion
Always ask yourself: “What is the purpose of this wireframe? What’s the user’s goal? Constantly reflecting back to those two questions, you can more easily get your ideas across.
