Walker User : People with Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke and ageing.

User Profile

Louis is Luke’s father. He is 56-year-old old man suffer from spinal cord injury(C4). Right after the surgery this summer, he is completely paralyzed on the left side of his body. After six month of physical therapy, although he still needs help get changed and go to the toilet, he is able to walk step by step using a walker. Luke and his family’s worst fear is Louis safety — that he won’t fall while he moves around. And Louis misses swimming and going out dinning with friends. Both Louis and his family put their hope on physical therapy — that he can recover as much as possible. Louis highly values doing the physical therapy.

User Scenario

Fall preventing

An assistive Robot that live monitors walking pattern. When suspicious movements that could lead to fall is detected, the robot will intervene, provides verbal and visual cues to the user and caretaker if necessary.

Rehabilitation Companion

An assistive Robot that serve as a companion for rehabilitation. When it is time to do exercise, take medication or have an appointment with the doctor, the robot will remind the user and keep tracks of tasks. Caretakers can assign tasks to the user, sent words of encouragement, and keep tracks of the progress.
