Dear Caitlin. It’s time to return to your roots in Australia. Yes, we have a wanker called ScoMo running the joint, there is no Bill of Rights or Aboriginal treaty, and the cops here are more like prison screws than law enforcement officials.
BUT, the air is clear, the beaches are the best in the World, and the politics are from a more naive era. Your cynicism is intelligent and articulate, but here, you could have fun with it. US politics, especially in the lead up to a federal election, is too depressing for someone with your insight and intelligence. I really do fear for your concise insights. You need to lighten up.
I am American by birth, but left the US in the aftermath of the Vietnam War. Cynical beyond words, I wandered the World until stumbling upon 1980’s Far North Queensland. It was like returning to the 1950’s in America.
You have an important message to get out there, but I think you’re too immersed in the sad reality of 2020 USA. You’re also in the enviable position to be able to live in or outside the US. Many of my friends in America would like to leave, but can not. You should. You’re far too young to be so jaded.
Come back to your roots. Look me up on FB. We have a fisherman’s shack on a 30km. beach in FNQ. A giant green turtle has just laid a big batch of eggs out the front in the sand. Jabirus visit daily. The same pod of dolphins swim past, as they have done for 25 years. A few islands offshore. The Great Barrier Reef just over the horizon.
You can still write your brilliant critiques, but with a buffer of half a world away. Plus, we have NZ and Jacinta Adern right next door! Think about it.
