The story of CarbonCapture the moonshot that plans to stop climate change with uniquely styled items.

Current Solutions To Climate Change Aren’t Working

7 out of 10 Americans believe that climate change is going to effect everyone’s future. However, very few people are willing or know how they can help. Daily life revolves the use of electricity which is predominantly made using fossil fuels. Our team lives in Las Vegas one of the top 15 most polluted cities in America, and we are tired of sitting on the sidelines while our city and many others like it are being destroyed. There must be a thing that the ordinary citizen can do to help, right?

There have been lots of different plans to try and stop carbon emissions. Whether it be using sustainable energy like solar or trying to minimize using fossil fuels, these efforts are helping but they are only slowing the inevitable.

Well guess what reader, yeah you, you can make the change by buying products from CarbonCapture. CarbonCapture is a startup that plans to sell a line of items constructed by a special substance called a metal organic framework (MOF).

This is A SERIOUS Problem

The problem of global warming is not just some buzz word that is being thrown around. It is a serious issue that could mean the end of both humans and animals on this planet. Every second about 2.57 million lbs of carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere worldwide.

The increasing levels of gas trap sunlight trying to leave the Earth’s atmosphere. This is known as the greenhouse effect and because of this effect, the planet shows a trend of heating up.

How the Greenhouse effect works

Even though the change may seem minimal right now, if the global temperature increases by only 2 degrees C coastlines worldwide will begin to flood.

How Metal Organic Frameworks Work

The MOF has a large surface area allowing for it to capture the gas out of the atmosphere. About one gram of the substance has the same surface area of an entire soccer field. Allowing very small amounts, to collect a large amount of gas.

The creation of the frameworks are a combination of organic and inorganic materials. They are made from a mixture of different metals and ligands, which are organic connectors. They create a ring-like figure that allows for a large internal surface area.

What an MOF looks like

These frameworks are changeable allowing for the storage of different gases. Primarily they are used to store hydrogen but we can modify them to target specifically carbon dioxide. They could also be changed to collect other gases that might be harmful to humans.

Each of our products will be made out of the MOF so that when the costumer goes about their day they trap the gas inside the product. By trapping the gas, the costumer takes part in cleaning the air.

The Products

The CarbonCapture line will include a ton of different types of items that the MOFs can be installed into. Items like key chains, phone cases, wristbands, and many others.

Rendering of what one of the products may look like.

Each product would be around the same price as the ordinary product without the special MOFs installed so there is no need to worry that you can not afford it. Each object while be sporting the custom CarbonCapture style.

The CarbonCapture Process

The products would be available online and in retail stores. Once the item has been completely filled with gas, the customer may bring the item back to one of our stores or ship it back online. You know when it is full when a dark green bar placed on the item is full. After it is returned, the costumer will get a heavy discount on their next purchase allowing for the cleaning of the air to be a continuous process for each person.

Since we care so much about cleaning the air, we will offer a reward system that provides financial incentives for returning to the process. The more products that are bought and filled with gas, the higher tier the costumer will become and the more rewards they will receive.

Future of CarbonCapture

This technology is still in its infancy and not very much research has been put into it at the moment. The tech can be used right now and would still be extremely effective at collecting the gas. Currently, MOFs are only being used to store and ship hydrogen to different areas but can be repurposed for our own use.

With a few more years of developing the frameworks, by increasing the capacity and decreasing the price,CarbonCapture could make a serious impact on the environment. That’s why we need smart innovators who wish to stop climate change to join our cause in fighting for a better, cleaner future.

This allows for more and more people to have the product and take part in the change that is coming. When more people buy the product, more CO2 can be collected from the atmosphere, slowing the process of global warming.

Carbon Capture is a moonshot company created by three teenagers looking to impact the world with developing technology. The team consists of Luke Yeager, Satu Enwezor, and Zack Nemec.
