LOL! I had to laugh, remembering when I told my new husband I wanted to have my cake and eat it, too! Our definition of that phrase was opposite. Just opposite.
As our relationship grew, he learned my definition meant I wanted a compromise. I accepted the challenge to find a way to make both of us happy.
We were team truck drivers with our home on ten wheels pulling eight more wheels. As solo drivers, we loved the alone feeling even on a crowded highway. Suddenly we were a team, together 24/7 and we liked it. We relished being alone together.
Today his ashes sit behind me and I am as connected to him as I was on the truck. I have a new definition of alone together, but my cake sits uneaten.
