240 miles away from the nearest city Midwife Hannah Bajor found herself entering the gates to one of the top secret cities in Saudi Arabia. Surrounding the city were high walls, barbed wire, military equipment that was mind-boggling and security guards all over the place. Hannah swallowed and thought what did she get herself into?

Working as a midwife in Saudi Arabia took a little getting used to. But Hannah quickly learned how to take on the persona of a Saudi Arabia woman. She learned their customs quickly, but she couldn’t get her head around the fact that it was normal for a Saudi man to have multiple wives. Saudi Arabia women seemed very happy with this setup after all this is all they had ever known.

These Saudi Arabia women though white skinned women were crazy to not have multiple wives living under one roof to share the man, share the stress, share the chores and even the children.

As a young midwife, people would call her to the emergency room to examine Saudi Arabian women when they came in with abdominal pain. These women had no idea why they were in pain, and they refused to have a male Doctor examine them.

For many of these Saudi Arabian women, they were in active labor without even realizing. Many of them were Bedouin, where they lived out in the desert in tents, yet they were always well groomed and well dressed. These Saudi Arabian women always dressed in the finest fluffiest ballgowns Hannah had ever seen.

The problem with these Saudi Arabian women was that they were not going to get undressed, and they certainly weren’t going to take their ballgowns or their knickers off. Well like all midwives faced with challenging birth situations Hannah got to work, cut the knickers and delivered the baby. Hope you tune into episode 6 of my 9 part series of Life In Saudi Arabia, it is candid, funny and at times horrifying!

Ironically I am a midwife and could not get pregnant. Traditional infertility specialists told me I could never have a child! Well I did — and you can too!
