Another Bloody Love Story
Keelan raised her head and looked at him. His machine beeped but she realized it was only because he moved a little but other than that he was still asleep. She looked at the time and it was late in the evening. She so tired but she too worried about him to even get some sleep.
It was two hours after his surgery and the doctors had told her he was looking good even though he was still in critical condition. The bullet was inches away from his artery but they were able to stop the bleeding and if all went well he would be fine.
She asked who had brought him in but they couldn’t say, who it was. The person just filled out the paperwork like his name then they left before they could ask questions about what happened. When she asked why they called her they explained that he had her down as his next of kin. She found that very surprising because she thought he had changed that.
She looked at the time but only five minutes had gone by. She knew her hearing aid wouldn’t last any longer and she also knew that without them she wouldn’t be able to hear the machines to know if he was ok or not. She ran her hands through her hair and made up her mind to turn her hearing aid off and if anything did go off the nurses would hear them.
She was just about to removed them when she saw him open his eyes slowly. He looked around at the ceiling and she could tell he was trying to figure out where he was.
He sat up suddenly and she heard him cry in pain.
“Beck,” she said getting up and rushing over to him. “Try to relax,” she said. “You’ve just been shot.”
He looked at her and she could tell he was really confused and in pain at the same time. “Keelan?” he asked weakly.
“Just relax,” she said making him lay back on his pillow. “You might rip your stitches out if your not careful.”
”Is everything ok?” one of the nurses asked walking in with a few other nurses.
“He’s fine,” she replied. “He’s just woken up.”
“Fuck,” Beck said looking up at the ceiling.
“You’re in pain?” she asked looking down at him then she noticed his bandage had some blood on it. “I think you’ve ripped your stitches open?”
“Let’s have a look,” one of the nurses said coming closer to have a look at him. She looked at his chest and looked at her fellow nurse. “Page Dr Saunders would you?”
She nodded and walked out.
Beck held Keelan’s hand and looked at her.
“You’re gonna be ok,” she reassured him. “Its just a few stitches then you’ll be fine. Do you want me to call anyone for you?”
He held her hand tighter and panted. “Stay.”
Keelan couldn’t help but feel numb because those were the exact same words she said to him before he left her standing like an idiot at the altar in front of all their friends and family a year ago. She begged and cried for him to stay and that they would try to work it out but he just walked out apologizing that he couldn’t go through with the wedding.
Now he was back and he was begging her to stay with him. Although she wanted nothing more than to walk out and leaving him hanging alone the way he did her she could only imagine how scared he must’ve been feeling so there was no way she could leave him.
“Mrs. Bloodmoon,” Dr Saunders said walking in. “Sorry but I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”
“I’m not his wife,” Keelan said. “All the same I’ll wait outside.”
Beck held her even tighter.
“Beck,” she said looking at him. “I’ll be just outside ok? You need to let go so they can help you.”
He looked at her then let go of her hand and she left the room and ran her hands through her hair. She looked back in the room and saw they were getting ready to stitch him up. She looked away from him then went to the reception and just then her hearing aid died.
She sighed and removed them and looked at the receptionist at the desk knowing she would have to lip read. “Hey,” she said getting her attention.
“Hi,” she smiled looking at her. “Is everything ok?” she asked.
“He ripped a few stitches but he’ll be fine,” Keelan replied. “I wanted to ask you if you were able to get a hold of his family or a close friend, or something like that?”
She looked at her computer screen and typed up something then she started to shake her head. “No, the man who brought him in just signed in his name then left before we could ask him any questions. Luckily we were able to get some of his details sent to us from one of the hospitals and you were listed as his next of kin.”
She nodded. “Thank you,” she said and took out her phone and started to send a message to her sister.

Payson read through her text for the fifth time then and ran her hands through her hair.
“Is everything ok?” Xona asked.
They were still at the Empire when she got the message so she wasn’t sure how she would make her way to her sister but she replied that she would be there as soon as possible anyway.
“My sister’s at the hospital,” she said. “I have to go.”
“Is she ok?” the other man in the room asked. Just a minute he and Xona had been arguing about something.
“She’s fine,” she said. “It’s Beck, he was shot so she has to stay with him but her hearing aid just died and I really need to be with her.”
“Beck?” they both repeated.
“It’s a really long story,” she said. “You wouldn’t happen to have a car here or something I kinda need a ride to the hospital.”
“I can –“
“Don’t even think about it,” Xona cut him off. “You’ve caused enough trouble for one night. I’ll take you.”
“Really? It’s not that I don’t want you to take me it’s just I don’t remember you having a car here.”
“So how are we getting there?” she asked.
“I have a bike,” she smirked she said and walked out a head of her.

Scott stood outside the hospital with his hands in his pockets. He looked at Silver as she stood next to him and he knew it was just a matter of time before the rest of the pack came. His scent was so strong.
“I thought it was just a rumor,” she said lighting a cigarette. “But you can smell him from seven blocks down, stinking up the whole city.”
Scott smirked. “Let’s hope he dies.”
“Do you know which one it is?” she asked.
He shook his head. “Does it matter though?” he asked. “One down is still a good count.”
“If it isn’t the cubs first on the scene,” Bruno said joining them and sure enough the rest of the pack was there as well. “Is he dead?”
“Smells alive to me,” Vick said putting his hands in his pockets and standing next to Silver.
“How many are there?” Chris asked.
“Just the one,” Scott replied. “I don’t think the others know he’s hurt.”
“Who is it?” Silver asked looking at him.
“What is that smell?” Bruno asked looking over his shoulder.
They smelled the air around them and sure enough they could smell a very foreign smell and it was a smell the hated almost as much as Pious. It was a Vampire.
“What the hell?” Silver asked watching her getting off her bike followed by a girl she had seen before but she couldn’t place.
“Hey Vick,” Scott said looking at the human. “Don’t you go to school with that girl?”
“Yeah I do,” he sighed. “That’s Payson Whall.”
“What’s she doing with a Vampire?” Chris asked.
“I have no idea.”
“You think she knows we’re here?”
As if on cue the Vampire turned her head and looked their direction and narrowed her eyes. They were all shocked when they saw which Vampire it was; they all knew about her because they had grown up hearing stories about her. None of them ever thought they would ever see her in their life time.
She said something to Payson and Payson ran in. She watched Payson go in then she was standing right in front of them in less than a second none of them even had a chance to blink.
“I thought I could smell fur a couple of blocks away,” she said putting her hands in her pockets. “I see why now.”
“What are you doing with Payson?” Vick asked glaring at her. “I swear if you hurt –“
“Vick,” Bruno said cutting if him. “Shut up.”
“You’re alone?” Scott asked her.
She looked at him then nodded. “Yeah I am. I was just giving her ride. What are you all doing here other than attracting serious attention?”
“Heard that a Pious Agent was hit,” Bruno replied. “Wanted to check it out.”
“What about you?” Scott asked.
“Turns out Payson knows the Pious Agent,” she said also putting her hands in her pockets.
“How?” Vick asked.
“You really have the hearts for her don’t you?” she smirked looking at him.
Vick didn’t say anything he just glared at her.
Suddenly Vick had the very tip of a sharp sword held at his neck and another Vampire was holding the sword. They also knew who he was; he was Tedashi Kenpachi but was famously known for his other name Warren, Xona’s bodyguard and a very famous Samurai from when he was still human.
“Seriously?” Xona cried looking at him. “This is exactly why I don’t have any friends. Put that thing away.”
Warren looked at her. “She” he corrected. “Has a name. What are you doing talking to them anyway?”
“It’s rude for you to talk about the foxes like they’re not here.”
“Werewolves,” Bruno corrected.
“You can call us mosquitoes and we’ll call it even,” she smiled innocently.
Scott and Silver couldn’t help but laugh at her comment. They had heard a lot about Xona and Warren including their way of talking but they didn’t think it was as bad as people said.
Bruno was about to say something when Payson came running out.
“Xona,” she called then she made her way over to them. She paused when she saw them all gathered around. Warren sped off before she got there, it would have been awkward for her to see him there all of a sudden.
“Payson,” Vick said. “Are you ok?”
“Vick?” she asked confused. “Wait you guys know each other?”
“Something like that,” Xona shrugged. “How’s he doing?”
“His ok,” she replied looking at the whole pack. It was obvious she was a little confused with what was going on but she seemed to have a lot on her mind as it was. “Um he just reopened his stitches in a panic but he’ll be fine. He lost a lot of blood but my sister is the same blood group as him so they’re doing a fusion now.”
“That’s good,” Xona said nodding.
“I know this is beside the point but Vick what are you doing here?”
“Oh,” Vick said. “My cousin’s not feeling well so we’re coming from visiting, then I met up with a few friends here. It’s really a weird time and place to meet people.”
“Oh,” she said. “Wow sorry to hear that and I couldn’t agree with you more.”
“What about Keelan?” Xona asked. “How’s she doing?”
“She’s freaking out,” she replied. “I don’t think she’s gotten any sleep. Anyway I wanted to thank you for the ride but I think I’m staying with my sister.”
“No problem,” she shrugged.
“Ok,” she said. “Well I have to go, it was nice meeting you even though I didn’t learn your names but I’m sure I’ll see you around,” she said. “I’ll see you at school Vick.”
“Yeah,” Vick nodded.
“Wait Xona, I should probably take your number,” she said taking her phone out.
“Sure,” Xona said taking her phone and entering it in. “Lemme know if you need anything.”
“Ok thanks,” she said saving it. “I’ll see you around I guess and thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.”
She looked at Vick then shook her head and made her way back inside the hospital.
“We should go,” Warren said appearing watching Payson go. “I have a feeling more hunters will be here soon. Don’t want them thinking we’re here so they can get their revenge on us.”
“Revenge?” Scott asked.
“Well yeah,” Xona said looking at him. “We are what they hunt, they’ll probably think we’re behind this. Especially since we’re actually talking to each other.”
“She has a point,” Bruno said. “We should go.”
“So you don’t know what happened to him?”
“Now I never said that,” Xona smiled. “We should go now, but it was such an honor meeting you Scott and your pack.”
“What?” Bruno asked looking at her.
“Nothing,” Scott said looking away from Xona. “Silver let’s go.”
“No,” Silver said looking at him. “How did she know your name?”
“It’s Xona,” he said. “She can hear people’s thoughts, you know this.”
“So you were thinking you were alpha in this pack?” Bruno asked.
He shook his head. “I was thinking it would be dumb if we’re still here when the hunters come.”

Nyla laid back on the roof and closed her eyes. It was late at night but she couldn’t sleep for some reason. There was a very strong smell in the air but she wasn’t sure what it was all she knew was that it made her want to hurl.
The past few months she noticed there something wasn’t right but she wasn’t sure what it was. It was like everything around her was changing. She always knew she was different from everyone around her but now it felt like everything else she was so used to was changing around her.
Ever since she was a little girl she was able to do things that her sisters and her friends couldn’t. It was almost as though she could manipulate things around her like fire, water, air and the earth. She thought it was just her imagination or something but then she noticed she could also manipulate other things like electricity and . . . people if she really wanted but she chose not to.
She remembered the number of prayers her parents had taken her to but nothing changed. If anything it was like her powers were just amplified but because she didn’t want to go prayers, she just pretended she didn’t have them anymore but she started to teach herself to control them.
The only thing she didn’t like about her powers were the visions she got. Those she really thought were nightmares but the rate things were going she thought it was really happening. For one thing she had been dreaming that vampires were killing people and then the following day on the news it was broadcast that either people were missing or they had been killed by something but not sure what.
She ran her hands through her curly hair and closed her eyes then the next thing happened took her off guard completely.
She was stuck and unable to move in her own body but she wasn’t alone. There was someone else with her but she didn’t know who she was but there was something about her that was very familiar and almost made her feel safe.
“Relax,” she said in a calm voice. “The more you struggle, the more it hurts.”
“Who are you?” Nyla asked.
“I’m family,” she replied. “I’ve been looking for you for a very long time and I’m happy I’ve found you.”
“Family?” she asked.
“Look Nyla,” she said and it almost sounded as though she was panting. “It’s not safe for you outside, you need to get back inside the house ok?”
“How are you doing this?” she asked.
“Get back in the house,” she repeated. “I’ll explain everything when we meet. I’m letting go of you now and I need you to get back in the house right now, do you understand me?”
“Ok,” she said. “I’ll talk to you soon.”
Nyla opened her eyes and looked around her then got back inside her room and closed the window behind her.

Xona collapsed on the ground and was panting. She looked at her hands and she could see they were old and very wrinkled. She almost looked her ages only a couple of hundred years younger. Warren ran into the room and knelt down next to her.
“Xona,” he said. “What the fuck did you do?”
“I found her,” she whispered. “I found my great great great great great great great –“
“Ok I get it.”
“Granddaughter,” she finished.
“You used your powers?” he asked looking at her. “Are you crazy you could’ve really hurt yourself –“
“What choice did I have?” she cut him off. “We’re running out of time with everything that’s happening.”
He sighed and helped her up. “Let’s get you something to eat.”
“She’s so beautiful,” she said leaning on him as he led her to the kitchen. “She’s has the cutest eyes and Myra’s nose.”
“Myra?” he repeated.
“Yes, Myra,” she said. “She even sort of looks like her.”
Warren looked at her then made her sit down on the floor while he opened the fridge and took out a bag full of fresh blood. He was happy he had gotten some because she needed feed fresh to recover after using her powers.
“She’s strong Warren,” she whispered. “Her powers are developing. She can do the spell; I know she can.”
