Describing the joyful process of blooming as a woman, Kasia Domańska’s message is brimming with flawless optimism and beauty.
Her brushwork is incredibly smooth and eloquent but she doesn’t get bogged down with overt hyper realism and reaches for bright pop art colours and almost surreal compositions. This makes me very excited about a future of Polish art.
She works with photographs, but doesn’t slavishly copy photos; one of her paintings is done from a dream. The gallery is a great backdrop for her work with raw concrete modernism in the middle of a freshly regenerated area of Warsaw.
She’s a world away from the constant naive cynicism of the champagne socialist ruling elite (which I saw most recently at the Museum of Caricatures) which dominated the art world here. Until now.
