The following summary provides a status update for activities for the L1 Task Force from April 21st to April 28th, 2023.

Q2 Roadmap and Target Dates

During the past two weeks the L1 Task Force has been reviewing key target dates for Q2 delivery, and have developed the following timeline as outlined below. It should be noted that the L1 Team had worked the week prior to the governance proposal passing, we will consider the start of the quarter April 15th, and the end of the quarter July 15th.

Key Q2 deliverables include Cosmos SDK v0.45.11, Tendermint v0.34.24, Cosmwasm 1.1.0 (Parity), IBC to Kujira, Cross-chain liquidity assessment, and Tendermint to Comet BFT Assessment

Sprint #2 April 21st to April 28th

Testing on v.2.0.0 continues to progress well, with the primary focus being on testing any API breakages with the current forked version of station. We plan to publish an agora proposal shortly for the v2.0.0 mainnet upgrade, in order to be well positioned to put a vote up with advanced notice for the upgrade to take place on May 17th.

Sprint #2 Project Board. Majority of open items listed are for v2.0.0 upgrade, and v2.1.0 Upgrade (Parity)

The next upcoming sprint will take place from May 1st to May 12th.

Testnet for Validators

During our upgrade planning and in planning for validators to join the testnet, we have asked validators to join the rebel-2 testnet and conduct a ‘dress rehearsal upgrade’ prior to the upgrade on mainnet.

Currently, approximately four validators have responded and will be joining the testnet to take part in the upgrade. Several validators had provided feedback that they feel they do not earn enough to justify the additional cost to join the testnet. We suspect this is likely the primary factor for validators not being eager to join.

To increase the number of validators on the testnet for the v2.0.0 ‘dress rehearsal’ upgrade, we have provisioned a few of our own test validators using a variety of supported and unsupported configurations. It appears that we should be able to conduct the Cosmos SDK and Tendermint upgrades on the Rebel-2 testnet slightly sooner than we had originally planned as a result.

v2.0.0 Upgrade Timing

We have created an upgrade proposal for the v2.0.0 upgrade for the new testnet upgrade, and will be releasing an Agora post for the v2.0.0 mainnet upgrade within the next few days.

Key Target Dates:

  • April 24th to May 4th — validators are provided with instructions to join the new testnet
  • May 5th (revised from May 9th)— Testnet Upgrade Completed
  • May 17th — Columbus-5 production upgrade
  • May 31st — Cosmwasm v1.1.0 upgrade (Parity)

Additional Activities In progress / Completed:

  • Development of detailed schedule and detailed budget forecast. Completed
  • Review of Station on-ramp wallet providers, and approach for implementation in Station. Completed
  • Discussion with on-ramp providers, with the desire for them to add Luna Classic and USTC functionality and capability to their services. In progress
  • Update of validator and Terra Classic developer documentation. In progress
  • Ad-hoc sec-ops patch. In progress

Resource Update

  • We have completed the hiring process for the new Senior Cosmos Developer, and awarded the role to one of the original developers of Cosmos SDK and IBC. He has also launched two public blockchains, and brings a wealth of L1 development experience to the team. His primary focus will be bringing the blockchain to parity through the Cosmwasm upgrade, the 5% minimum validator commission fee, and the assessement of Tendermint to CometBFT, as well as advising on the ideal Cosmos SDK upgrade roadmap and release planning schedule for future upgrades. We welcome him to the team!
