This is so convoluted, and too much over-thinking went into this.
They guy was a moron and was ill-intentioned.
The skill here is to learn to speak our mind respectfully and understand each other, which he did the first part without the second part.

The guy was definitely hitting on you, just say “no” and move on with your life.
