I just heard about your blog and was going to visit and suggest that you write something about poison ivy… but of course you already have this excellent post. I’ll just add that poison-ivy.org has some more info about poison ivy.

I’ll also add that you can get a poison ivy reaction pretty much anywhere on or in your body. If you burn the plant, the fire doesn’t destroy the oil, which becomes airborne and you can inhale to get a reaction in your lungs (enjoy your stay in the hospital). If you weedwack it and the flying debris cuts your skin, as grass often does, you can get a reaction in your blood vessels (another trip to the hospital). And of course, eating it will cause a reaction in your digestive system. If plants were sentient, poison ivy would be the subject of many horror movies.
