To start my second blog post, I thought I would start with products that I love as a Makeup Artist. Remember, these are my preferences. Honestly, not everyone is going to love the same products. If you watch these tutorials on you tube, you almost feel obligated to go out and get exactly the same products to achieve the “same” look… Stop! Remember that each person is unique and what fits the MUA on her, wont necessarily fit on you… So be adventurous and try out products on your own…
These are just some of my favorites that I use on myself and my clients. I hope you give them a try and see what works great for you. I tried to give options between the more expensive brands I use on my clients to the cheaper versions that I secretly love to use.
Cleanser- Neutrogena Hydro Boost hydrating Cleansing Gel ($8) Also Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser ($6) is fantastic!
Moisturizer- Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel ($20) & Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Cream ($20) Talk about amazing! But, I have dry skin, so this is perfect for me. If you have a combination (both dry and oily)Any other Neutrogena brand will do.
I love Neutrogena products for cleansers, toners and moisturizers, as far as drug stores go, they are my go to. You can get fancier if you want and get products that cost upwards of 100’s of dollars, but I can assure you, these $5–$25 brands are just as effective.
**Remember, the key to a flawless look, is always healthy skin***
Face Primer- I am a big fan of the Lancome LA Base Pro Primer ($20), I use it on me and clients and I love it! If you want something more affordable, NYX Professional Makeup Studio Perfect Photo-Loving Primer ($12) is also a good product. Some I know have also used Elf Studio Poreless Face Primer ($6). I have not personally used it, but there’s options in every budget.
Eye Primer- Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion — Original ($20) or No7 Stay Perfect Smoothing & Brightening Eye Base ($9)
Eye Shadow(s)- Urban Decay Naked Pallets ($54), MAC Cosmetics Eye Shadow X 15: Cool Neutral Pallet($65)MAC Cosmetics X 15: Warm Neutral Pallet ($65) Some more affordable options are BH Cosmetics Essential Eyes- 28 Color Eyeshadow Pallet ($13) Maybelline Blushed, Nudes & Smoke Pallets ($12) *As a piece of advice, find pallet that best fits you and has a combination of mattes and shimmers for different looks*
Foundation- Laura Mercier Silk Creme Oil Free ($50) or Maybelline Fit Me Foundation ($8)
Concealer- NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ($30) Lancôme Maquicomplet — Complete Coverage Concealer ($31) Cheaper alternative is Maybelline Master Conceal by Face Studio ($10) or L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer ($3)
