There’s a lot of fucked up feelings in this universe. The feeling that accompanies the lack of financial security is the worst.
Nothing cripples you more than knowing you can’t just do whatever you want at any given time. If you’re an empath, penury will be your most potent adversary.
Having the urge to save the day when you can’t even afford a cape to play the part. Shit sucks.
It gets even worse when you have a lot of people look up to you. They believe you’re Batman when you’re just Bruce Wayne without a trust fund.
To be fair, you do look the part. Smooth skin, confident aura, smooth talk with a pinch of “keep the change.” To crown it all, you know your way around fashion. “Whew,” you know you’re never beating the “rich kid” allegation.
No one wants to help you. Everyone believes you’re fine. There’s no reason you shouldn’t be. You’re good looking and lit. The stars must certainly align for you.
That’s all they think when they see you post a new snap with those filters that keep the pain hidden within contours and glitters. But you know you ain’t doing nothing extra. However, in their eyes, nothing you do is basic. You’re that guy.
For days, you go hungry, nibbling at whatever crumbs fall your way. You hold the fort down for as long as it takes. If you don’t, you’d have yourself to blame because help wouldn’t come.
Who could possibly offer to help a man that has it all?
Exactly.
You can’t even love properly.
You dread seeing your partner caught in a financial twist because every second you spend listening to their lamentation increases your anxiety and feeling of inadequacy.
Every attempt they make to cry on your shoulder appears to be a subtle plea for financial assistance. Sometimes, you believe they must secretly abhor you for being so useless and interior-decor-ish.
But fuck all that! You wish to be that guy! You want to be the pillar they can always lean on. Maybe it’s the internalized patriarchy in you but you don’t want them crying without offering to wipe their tears with your “currency” or whatever Rema said.
Moreover, you know there are plenty of men out there who wouldn't hesitate to unsheathe their swords to play knight to your distressed damsel when all you have is a listening ear and occasional “please, manage this for now, yeah?”
Your life sucks. You have zero clue when you get your big break. You can’t wait to possess the money people think you have. You want to be the hero with the multiple zeroes. You’re sick and tired of the daydreams where you continue splurging millions on your loved ones only to be jolted into reality by your data balance alert.
Although, the daydreams keep you going. They remind you of where you ought to be. If only you knew a shortcut or something because, damn, the destination looks farther every day💔.
