Wisdom Teeth

The TRUTH about WISDOM is, well — it’s complicated. As a practicing dentist for 4 years I’ve seen my fair share of patients and recommended my fair share of surgeries.

If you visit 3 dentists, you’re likely to get 3 different opinions. Yikes, right? It’s not necessarily that any of the 3 are wrong, but rather their philosophies differ.

This is my biased opinion on when and why one should have their wisdom teeth out.

Do you have 3rd molars, or otherwise termed, Wisdom teeth? Are you under the age of 30? Do you have good insurance? Do you have a dentist who will refer you to an Oral Surgeon? Will you be sedated for the procedure?

If the answer to questions above are mostly YES, then GREAT. Get those suckers OUT. The aforementioned circumstances make the entire ordeal WAY more bearable for the patient. Whatever NO you mentioned is just going to make that aspect a little more difficult.

If you’re over 30 the recovery may be tougher. If you don’t have insurance it will be pricier. But make SURE you have an ORAL SURGEON TAKE THEM OUT, and if you have 4, or more, or less, get them ALL OUT AT ONCE with IV SEDATION! No one needs to remember that surgery. I’ve heard way too many horror stories from patients over the years who were awake.

A and D are examples of some wisdom teeth patterns
