Bret Stephens is published on the “op ed” side of the paper, and NYT has been clear about the reason they hired him (new voices). There are many foolish things published every day in all media, and readers have always had the burden of critical review. I fully accept the reality of human induced global warming and its likely dire consequences, and I also appreciate the way that, for whatever their own reasons, some writers remind us to be wary of absolutism in politics and life. I am much more worried about campus activists who are preventing discourse/don’t want to hear the ideas of those with whom they disagree than I am about NYT readers being somehow misled by Bret Stephens.
