So interesting seeing someone else’s numbers!
I self-published a children’s book in 2014 with my author friend. We had finished the book entirely and raised $10,000 which covered printing and shipping. At the end of it we had something like $60 left over. (Shipping was way more than estimated!) At the end of it I got a cheque for $30, took my share of the remaining printed books (300/1000) and went on to sell those at art markets and through Etsy. A year later we invested our own money into the 2nd printing of the book.
I think self-publishing most often involves sacrificing upfront profit for actually making the thing a reality.
