Odd Spot 03 // Sandtagious
A celebration of creators at the intersection of internet art, virtual reality, multi-sensory design and digital wellness, who embody the spirit of Luxury Escapism.
If you’ve ever fallen down an #oddlysatisfying Instagram hole, you’ve probably encountered the genius of Sandtagious (@sand.tagious). Using kinetic sand as the medium of choice, Sandtagious blows our minds with the satisfying simplicity of scooping, slicing, and smooshing.
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Sandtagious, I make aesthetically pleasing sand videos. No for real though, I prefer to be anonymous. It just started out like that and I kept it going, no specific reason, just kinda happened like this. Also, It adds a bit of mystique to it all :-)
What is your creative process?
Look through my own videos, stare at my bags of sand, sometimes looking at cooking photos of desserts, etc.
What is something weird you do to get inspired?
Just stare at all the bags of sand and the different colors (lol, it’s true).
Describe your aesthetic in 3 words
Clean, bright, perfect.
How has the internet influenced your work?
Not sure it’s so much the internet as it is just things I see. It could be from TV, magazines, objects, photos, anything. But if we have to go with Internet it would just be the availability of images at any moment.
Can a machine create art? Why or why not?
Yes, but I’m not sure if it could be considered timeless or inspirational art.
Is technology good or evil — why?
It’s both, but because we have no patience we want it all perfect in our lifetime. This has only been a brief moment in time for us and there is a transition we are going through to wrap our heads around it all. During this transition, we are getting way too much information but we’ll find a balance.
What is your ultimate escape?
Movies and video games.
If you had a magic power, what would it be?
To stop time or slow it down at least.
What color is your aura?
# 9932CC (I would prefer a gradient though :-)
Best sources of inspiration?
I have a design background, so a lot of it just comes to me. To this day, I don’t know how I created over 500 Sand videos, seriously! It just poured out of me like it’s been waiting there LOL.
Favorite websites? — surprise us!
Amazon and Youtube. Not much of a surprise, but it’s the truth. Youtube really is the best, you can find and learn anything. I’m always telling people this. An iPad and Youtube is all you need.
What is one thing about you that we wouldn’t expect?
My followers don’t know if i’m male or female.
What work are you most proud of?
Probably the Kinetic Sand Sushi, the Invisible Squish and my Drop & Squish concepts I created. It’s not easy coming up with completely new things with Sand.
