The Day I Stayed Seated
Patti Piatt

You write with such feeling, Patti. Playing the piano for me was always a competition with my older sister. I wanted to CREATE music, not just play someone else’s compositions, but NO, I had to have classical training, and get those grade diplomas, etc. so my parents could brag that they had TWO piano players in the family. I got my grade eight conservatory diploma, then never touched the piano for almost twenty years. I still cannot truly break the formal training well enough to get to the jazz slides or the blues that I would love to play, but music is once again mine as well. Thank you for sharing your story here, Patti.
