Why I Left the Republican Party: A Warning

There is enough reason not to vote for Trump without jumping on the same bandwagon as the Demos that over-read into what he is saying.

Trump was able to get the nomination because:

  1. the Republican party is relatively small
  2. there is no membership requirement for being a member of the party
  3. he had to choose one of the two parties that has any chance of winning in the United States, and there aren’t enough Trump supporters to overrun the Democrats (leaving him no other option)

I agree that his methodology is exactly how a dictator could come to power in the United States, but it isn’t a reflection on all Republicans but a reflection on two, major failures of the American political system:

  1. Our governing representatives in all three branches are not held accountable to the people, so they pander to special interests and, combined with economic fall out, nobody trusts them
  2. Our public education system is, with few local exceptions, a failure, so people are willing to swallow bread-and-circuses rhetoric

Trump is battling against a Democratic nominee who even members of her own party question if she got where she is by party corruption.

This is what I see happening with the Republican Party. The flakes like ‘never really liked by anyone, and struggling to remain relevant’ Newt are supporting Trump, while others are shuffling their feet, waiting for the storm to pass. Knowing what we know from this election, a losing Trump will have a different kind of opposition waiting for him if he tries to run again. An actual winning Trump will be a signal for change in the party.
