There is no “technology industry”

This has been on my mind for a while since it shows the sorry state of the tech industry.

Sad to say, I see a decline in innovation, and worse, a meteoric decline in privacy and loss of individual freedom through draconian metering.

Also, too many companies, such as Uber or AirBNB are social media enablers of non-tech solutions. Using web technologies to do something non-tech doesn’t make you an innovative tech company.

Calling yourself a start up doesn’t make you a start up — even though so many think it is synonymous with either being small or new.

Being a billion dollar company doesn’t make you a tech company either. There are many great innovations and tech services that come out of non-tech companies (like Amazon), but that doesn’t make them a tech company.
